Thank you for visiting my website, I'm glad you're here.
So you're on the bio page - I suppose you want to know a little about who I am.
I graduated from Illinois State University with my Bachelor of Science in Journalism
with a minor in Public Relations, and a Masters Degree in Communication.
I guess I've always been a writer. As far back as grade school, I wrote for a mimeographed little publication, and then in High school I got a byline- though under a pseudonym name of Heather. In my Southside Chicago public High School of over 2400 students, there was no one named Heather. But I was a very introverted honor roll student who didn't want to be bullied - any further - by the burnouts for the poem I wrote, so I established a pen name to save my tail.
While in college I was a reporter for the ISU "The Daily Vidette" Newspaper. In addition, I was also a Disc Jockey for WZND radio station where I wrote and performed a featured artist show. While at ISU, I wrote copious amounts of research papers on an electric typewriter. I am the world's worst speller, and am so very grateful for spell check on the computer. It beats the old days of my going through gallons of correction fluid, and using dictionaries until they fell apart.
After college I wrote and hosted several shows for cable television. I was also a National Basketball Association (NBA) Professional Cheerleader - called The Luvabulls for the Chicago Bulls. Yes, I cheered when Michael Jordan was on the team. Then I went on to become a consultant at Motorola where I supervised and wrote training programs for their educational branch called Motorola University. All the corporate prose gave me a great background, but what I always dreamed of was to write a novel. Yet, I put that dream on hold when I got married in 1991 and moved around a lot from Chicago first to Sweden, then to Marietta, Georgia before finally setting in Savannah.
I have been married to my wonderful aerospace husband Tom for over 16 years and we have four children- two boys and two girls ages from 15 years old to 7. In the last few years, when my youngest was in school full time, I have taken several writing courses at the local University. In addition I have become a member of several writing organizations including: Romance Writers of America, Sisters in Crimes, Mystery Writers of America, Georgia Romance Writers, and the Southeast Mystery Writers. I also am a founding member of the local "Savannah Pens"- Published and Emerging Novelist Society. In addition, in the past few years I have established my freelance writing career and have had several bylines which include a local newspaper, The Southside News, and a magazine, The Skinnie.
The biggest writing accomplishment to date is that in the fall of 2006 I completed a 300 page, 75,000 word women's fiction manuscript entitled "Harmony Hill." I have also started the query process for agents and publishers. While I plug away at the elusive dream of getting published, I continue to write for a local magazine, and have begun my next manuscript. This time a murder mystery set in a lake town.
Please stay tuned as I try my hand at a writing career - I'd love to have you all along for the ride. It should be a hoot.
